How to Bring More of the Outdoors into Your Home

Homes are made as enclosures with clear separation between indoor and outdoor living spaces. At least, that was the prevailing thought. Today’s home designs are starting to blur the lines and creating overlaps between the two spaces, with pleasing and unique results. In this post, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southeast Florida shares some tips on how to bring more of the outdoors into your next home or bathroom remodel.

Patios and Decks

Patios and decks are great ways to extend your living space to the outdoors. The key difference between the two is that patios are set on the ground and are typically made of concrete or stone. Decks, on the other hand, are elevated platforms made of wood or composite. Both provide plenty of room for outdoor furniture and features like barbecue grills, which let you enjoy the outdoors with all the comforts of indoor living. Decks also let you get more use out of uneven ground — great for properties on a hillside or similarly-steep inclines.

Extended Flooring

Even without a threshold, the difference in flooring between interior and exterior spaces is enough to create a distinct separation. Choosing the same flooring helps merge both spaces, making it possible to have kitchen cabinets just within a few paces from a poolside or an outdoor dining area. Custom sliding doors can be installed to create separation when needed.

Sunroom and Screened Porch

A sunroom is much like a bubble that lets one extend an indoor living space and everything in it — cooled or heated air, indoor furniture, to name a few — while enjoying natural light and an all-encompassing view. One can enjoy the atmosphere of a rainy day without getting wet or cold. Similarly, a screened porch lets one enjoy the outdoors, including a cool breeze, without worrying about letting bugs or other pests inside the house.
