If you live in an HOA community, you probably already know that you need HOA approval for repairs or renovations that will be done to your home’s exterior. However, keep in mind that HOA approval is not exclusive to exterior renovations and repairs. Depending on the extent of the work you’re planning to do in your interior, you may need to seek HOA approval.
Generally, bathroom remodeling, interior painting, and kitchen sink replacements do not have HOA approval. But if you are going to make structural changes or renovate your entire kitchen, you will likely need to apply for HOA approval.
In this post, DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen of Southeast Florida share a few do’s and don’ts when requesting HOA approval for your kitchen remodel.
Check your CC&Rs to be certain about the rules of your HOA for kitchen renovations. These documents will also have the requirements for such a project, allowing you to prepare them beforehand and have a better chance of a smoother application process.
The scope of your kitchen remodeling project will determine whether you need to apply for permits from your city or municipality. To be sure, you can check your CC&Rs and consult your HOA as well as professional remodelers. Remodeling contractors can usually help you with permit applications. Some can even take care of the entire application process for an additional fee or as part of a service package.
Remodels can produce a lot of noise and mess, and your project will likely cause some disruptions or inconvenience to your neighbors. Make sure to let them know in advance about your renovation so that they can make their own preparations too. Furthermore, ensure that your contractor will only be on-site during the HOA-approved working hours.
