According to experts, if you have a counter that’s 28’’ to 30’’ in height, choose a chair stool that is 18’’ from the floor to the seat. Counters that are 36’’ to 39’’ in height can be paired with counter stools that are 24’’ to 26’’ from the floor. Finally, counters that are 40’’ to 42’’, on the other hand, can be paired with bar stools that are 28’’ to 30’’ from the floor to the seat.

Consider the Style of the Stool

According to kitchen remodeling pros, you’ll also need to consider the style of your potential stool when trying to pick one that suits your kitchen island. This is because the stool style that you choose can vary depending on various factors such as your available space. For instance, if you don’t want a tall profile that can overwhelm your island, choose a backless stool that can easily be tucked away. However, if you’re looking to entertain, choose a broad-backed stool with deep seating.
