A half bath is a bathroom that contains a toilet, sink and mirror but no tub or shower. An under-sink cabinet as storage for hand towels, tissue paper and other toiletries is great. But if the space is tight, these items can be stored elsewhere.
If you are thinking of adding a half bath to your home but are not sure where to place it, a bathroom and kitchen remodeling expert suggest these locations.
An ingenious way to build a half bath is to slice out a portion of the garage. Due to the number of doors in a home’s back entry, access to the bath is usually through a sliding pocket door. This prevents open doors from clashing with one another.
This is a great option to make use of a space that is often underutilized. A half bath under the stairs works best in homes with an enclosed foyer that opens into an entertaining area. A minimum of 5 feet above the toilet is generally the recommended height, though you still need to check with your local codes for the exact bathroom remodeling requirements.
For homes with a gabled dormer on the attic level, fitting the half bath within the dormer is a great idea. But that is if the ceiling height at the interior ridge is at least 7 feet or if there is a minimum width of 5 to 6 feet between walls that are at least 5 feet tall.
